When one thinks of a wedding, the first picture that always comes to mind is a large and glamorous affair with tons of flowers, lots of gifts and a huge bridal party. However, this is not possible or feasible in all cases. This is because a large scale wedding takes a long time to arrange, and of course, is expensive. Moreover, for small weddings, it is possible to hold a large reception where you can mingle better with friends and family.
It is always better to hold small weddings in restaurants, bed and breakfasts, wedding chapels, historic homes and gardens. There are even couples who had thought of something novel, and held their wedding in trains, boats and while parachuting! So when planning a small wedding, you have a wider choice on the venue of the wedding. In fact, using your imagination, you can hold your small wedding anywhere you want! Sometimes the venue may not advertise the availability for wedding; this is because they don’t like large crowds. However, small weddings can be held; just ask.
You can consider holding a destination wedding if the wedding is small enough. Here you can merge the wedding with a vacation for you and your guests. It’s not feasible to invite many people to a destination wedding; it is fit only as an idea for small weddings. Moreover, you can either continue with your honeymoon in your destination when the guests move off; or you could go somewhere else. Small outdoor weddings are always popular - especially considering budget.
You could try something new with a small wedding; perhaps have each member of your family hold a rose along the aisle. The bride then collects the roses to create her wedding bouquet; and giving the family the satisfaction of having contributed to the wedding. Perhaps members of the family can do the readings of the wedding; while guests say a few words about the couple. There are many family traditions that have been missed through years; why not incorporate them in the small wedding to make it a memorable and special affair.
If you have a small budget for the wedding instead of ordering a large cake, order a small cake and serve it as dessert instead of sweets. Don’t buy all the required things; borrow, rent or make as many items as possible. You could borrow jewelry, bride’s shoes, toasting glasses and the cake knife. Try to get friends to help with decorations instead of hiring professionals. Instead of a florist, you could use the services of a floral design school. And use the bridesmaid’s bouquets as flower arrangements for the head table. Choose a simple wedding card that uses a cheap stamp, and include the invitation of the reception in the card too.
Incorporating all these ideas for small weddings prove to be beneficial in producing a wedding that is both small, and memorable!
