Wedding Speech Writing, Tips and Wording for the Reception

If you are planning on giving a wedding speech, you want to make sure that it is going to be perfect. One of the main keys to giving the best speech is planning. Planning and practicin will make it as perfect as possible- but the first thing that you need to do is write the wording and elements you wish to say. The key to how well liked your wedding speech is going to be is how you begin the introduction. One of the most common favorites for a bridesmaid, best man, or family member is how the bride and the groom met. You can give any other sort of personal reflection, or any cute little joke is always nice. However, if you plan on using a joke, you should make sure that it is appropriate. Keep in mind that you will have a wide range of people in the audience and you want to make sure that they will find your joke funny, so do not make it a dirty joke.

Writing your speech on index cards and taking them with you once it is time for you to go up is a good idea to keep in mind. Not only will they help you organize your speech beforehand, but they will also be at your convenience if you blank out and forget what you are going to say.

Be sure that you do not mention anything that is too embarrassing for the bride or groom. Do not bring up past relationships or marriages. Keep in mind that this is their wedding day- the day that they have chosen to leave all of this extra baggage behind. Bringing it up can only create tension. Use your judgment wisely. Before you say something, think about whether or not it would upset you if you were the bride or the groom- or the bride or groom’s family members.

Make sure that you keep your wedding speech short and to the point. You do not want to write a really long speech. Also keep in mind that the longer your speech is, the harder it will be for you to remember. Although index cards will be useful, you are not going to want to use them throughout the whole duration of your speech.
